 DAY 1: ERRACHIDIA AIRPORT – MERZOUGA DESERT

Your 3-day desert experience begins upon arrival at Moulay Ali Cherif Airport in Errachidia. As many flights land in the evening, your driver-guide will greet you at the airport and transfer you directly to Merzouga.

The journey south introduces you to the first glimpses of the pre-Saharan landscape, where rocky plateaus gradually give way to palm groves and desert expanses. Upon arrival in Merzouga, you will check into your hotel situated near the dunes of Erg Chebbi.

The remainder of the evening is reserved for rest and relaxation, allowing you to prepare for the immersive desert exploration awaiting you the following day. Overnight stay in a comfortable hotel in Merzouga.

DAY 2: EXPLORATION OF MERZOUGA REGION – ERG CHEBBI – CAMEL TREK AND OVERNIGHT IN DESERT CAMP

After breakfast at your hotel, the day begins with a 4×4 excursion around the Erg Chebbi dunes, offering a comprehensive exploration of the surrounding desert environment.

Your first visit will be to Hassi Labied oasis, where you will observe the traditional irrigation channels that sustain agricultural plots amidst arid surroundings. This ingenious water management system reflects the resilience and adaptability of desert communities.

Continuing south, you may visit the seasonal Sriji Lake (when water levels permit), an important stopover for migratory birds. The route then leads to Khamlia village, home to the Gnawa community, descendants of sub-Saharan populations who settled in the region generations ago. Here, you will experience traditional spiritual music characterized by deep rhythms and ancestral melodies.

The excursion proceeds to the M’ifis mining area, known for its mineral and fossil deposits, highlighting the geological richness of the region. Upon arrival at the desert camp, you will be welcomed with mint tea and shown to your private nomadic tent. DAY 3: ERG CHEBBI – RISSANI – ERFOUD – ZIZ VALLEY – ERRACHIDIA

Following breakfast and a shower at the camp, you will return to the village either by camel or by 4×4 vehicle, depending on your preference. After meeting your driver, the return journey toward Errachidia begins.

Your first stop will be Rissani, historically significant as the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty. If your visit coincides with a market day (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday), you will have the opportunity to explore its lively traditional souk, where local traders gather to sell produce, livestock, textiles, and handcrafted goods.

The journey continues to Erfoud, renowned for its annual date festival and fossil workshops. If desired, you may visit one of the mineral processing factories to learn about the region’s prehistoric geological formations.
