ITINERARY FOR: 6 DAYS TOUR FROM ERRACHIDIA TO MARRAKECH

DAY 1: ERRACHIDIA – ZIZ VALLEY – ERFOUD – MERZOUGA DESERT

Your six-day journey begins upon arrival at Errachidia Airport, where your experienced driver-guide will welcome you and accompany you south toward the Sahara. The drive through the Ziz Valley offers an extraordinary introduction to Morocco’s desert landscapes. Towering cliffs frame expansive palm groves, creating one of the country’s most picturesque oasis environments.

After a panoramic stop overlooking the valley, the route continues through Erfoud, a town renowned for its fossil workshops and date harvest festivals. As the landscape gradually transforms into open desert plains, the majestic dunes of Erg Chebbi begin to appear on the horizon.

Upon arrival in Merzouga, settle into your accommodation near the dunes. The calm atmosphere of the Sahara at sunset sets the tone for the days ahead.

Overnight in a hotel or riad in Merzouga.

DAY 2: DESERT EXCURSION – KHAMLIA VILLAGE – NOMADS – MEFFIS MOUNTAIN

An early wake-up call is highly recommended to witness sunrise over the dunes—an unforgettable spectacle of light and shadow across the sand.

After breakfast, your desert exploration begins in a comfortable 4×4 vehicle, allowing you to access remote areas beyond the main tourist paths. Your first visit is to a nomadic Berber family living in traditional woven tents behind the dunes. Here, you will be welcomed with mint tea and offered insight into a lifestyle shaped by resilience and deep connection to the desert environment.

The journey continues to Meffis Mountain, a historic mining site dating back to the French protectorate period. The remnants of extraction activities and abandoned structures offer a fascinating glimpse into the region’s industrial past.

Next, visit Khamlia village, home to the Gnawa community, whose ancestors originated from Sub-Saharan Africa. You will enjoy a live performance of traditional Gnawa music—a spiritual and rhythmic art form deeply embedded in Moroccan culture. Afterward, lunch will be served in a local restaurant before a short walk through a nearby oasis, where traditional irrigation channels sustain small agricultural plots.

Return to your hotel in Merzouga for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 3: SAHARA DESERT – RISSANI – TODGHA GORGE – BOUMALNE DADES

Before departing the desert, rise early once more to experience the shifting colors of sunrise across the dunes.

After breakfast, begin your journey toward Boumalne Dades. Your first stop is Rissani, an ancient trading center and cradle of the Alaouite dynasty. If your visit coincides with one of the weekly market days (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday), you will witness a vibrant souk where villagers gather to trade goods, livestock, and agricultural products. The sight of donkey carts replacing cars adds to the authenticity of the experience.

Continue onward to Todgha Gorge, a natural masterpiece carved by centuries of river flow through towering limestone cliffs. Rising more than 400 meters high, these canyon walls create a dramatic and refreshing oasis environment. You will have time to walk along the river and admire the geological grandeur of this renowned climbing destination.

After lunch, travel to the Dades Valley, where winding mountain roads and striking rock formations—known locally as the “Monkey Fingers”—define the landscape. Arrive in Boumalne Dades for dinner and overnight accommodation in a hotel or riad.

DAY 4: BOUMALNE DADES – OUARZAZATE – AIT BEN HADDOU – TIZI N’TICHKA – MARRAKECH

After breakfast, enjoy a final panoramic view of the Dades Valley, including the dramatic Tissadrin curves—one of the most spectacular mountain roads in Morocco.

The journey continues through Kalaat M’Gouna, famous for its fragrant Rose Valley. If visiting during the spring harvest, you may observe rose distillation and local cooperatives producing essential oils and cosmetic products.

Proceed to Ouarzazate, widely known as the “Hollywood of Morocco” due to its role as a filming location for numerous international productions. Then visit the remarkable Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978. This fortified village, constructed from earthen clay, once served as a strategic stop along ancient caravan routes linking Marrakech and the Sahara. You may explore its narrow passageways and climb to the watchtower for panoramic views of the surrounding valley.

After lunch, cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi N’Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters above sea level. The journey offers breathtaking vistas of mountain villages and terraced hillsides before descending toward Marrakech.

Arrival in the late afternoon. Transfer to your accommodation.
