ITINERARY FOR: 7 DAY TOUR FROM AGADIR TO MERZOUGA

DAY 1: AGADIR – MARRAKECH

Your seven-day desert journey begins with a pickup from your hotel in Agadir. Traveling inland toward Marrakech, you will gradually transition from coastal landscapes to the vibrant atmosphere of Morocco’s most celebrated imperial city.

Upon arrival, you will explore the city’s principal landmarks, which may include the Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs, and the lively Jemaa el-Fnaa square. After a full day of cultural discovery, you will check into your hotel or riad, where dinner and overnight accommodation are arranged.

DAY 2: MARRAKECH – AÏT BEN HADDOU – ROSE VALLEY – DADES GORGES

After breakfast, depart Marrakech and ascend into the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters above sea level. The winding mountain road offers spectacular panoramic views.

Your first major stop is the UNESCO-listed Kasbah Aït Ben Haddou, a magnificent fortified village (ksar) constructed in traditional earthen architecture. After exploring its narrow alleys and enjoying lunch in a local restaurant, continue to Ouarzazate to visit the historic Taourirt Kasbah and the Atlas Film Studios, often referred to as the “Hollywood of Africa” due to the many international productions filmed there.

In the afternoon, proceed through the Valley of Roses, renowned for its rose harvest and production of perfumes, rosewater, and cosmetic products. Continue to Boumalne Dades for dinner and overnight accommodation in a hotel overlooking the Dades Valley.

DAY 3: DADES GORGES – TODRA GORGES – JORF – ERFOUD – MERZOUGA

Following an early breakfast, travel along the famous “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs,” passing traditional Berber villages and fortified dwellings.

Arrive at the Todra Gorges, where the river has carved a dramatic canyon with towering limestone cliffs. After time to explore and photograph this remarkable site, continue to Tinejdad and Jorf to observe traditional palm groves and ancient irrigation canals.

In Erfoud, visit a fossil workshop and learn about the region’s prehistoric marine history, as well as its thriving date market.

By late afternoon, reach the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Here, mount your camels for a serene trek across the sands. Pause to admire the sunset before arriving at your desert camp. Dinner will be served beneath a sky illuminated by countless stars, accompanied by traditional Berber music around the campfire. Overnight in a nomadic-style tent.

DAY 4: MERZOUGA – KHAMLIA – RISSANI – ERG CHEBBI

After breakfast, explore the Erg Chebbi region by 4×4 vehicle. Begin with a visit to Khamlia village, where you will experience traditional Gnawa music rooted in West African heritage.

Continue to visit nomadic families living in woven tents, gaining insight into their desert lifestyle. You may also explore abandoned mining sites and palm oases scattered throughout the region.

Later, travel to Rissani, the historic capital of Tafilalet and an important commercial center. Visit its vibrant market, known for traditional crafts, jewelry, spices, and local produce. Lunch will include the regional specialty “Medfouna,” often referred to as Berber pizza.

Return to Merzouga and prepare for a second camel ride into the dunes for another enchanting night in the desert camp beneath the stars.

DAY 5: MERZOUGA – ERFOUD – TODRA GORGES – OUARZAZATE

Rise early to witness the sunrise over the dunes before riding camels back to the starting point. After breakfast and time to freshen up, begin the return journey.

Stop once again in Jorf to observe traditional irrigation systems, then continue to Todra Gorges for a final visit. Travel through the Valley of Roses and visit a women’s cooperative specializing in natural rose products.

By late afternoon, arrive in Ouarzazate, where dinner and overnight accommodation are arranged in a hotel.

DAY 6: OUARZAZATE – ATLAS MOUNTAINS – MARRAKECH

After breakfast, depart Ouarzazate and travel back through the High Atlas Mountains. A lunch stop will be made in Taddart or another Berber village offering panoramic views.

Continue toward Marrakech, arriving in the afternoon or early evening. You will be transferred to your hotel or riad for overnight accommodation.

DAY 7: MARRAKECH – AGADIR

After breakfast, depart Marrakech and return to Agadir. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your original hotel, marking the conclusion of your seven-day desert journey. End of services.
